The Republic of Ireland national rugby union team is a team of rugby players representing both the Republic of Ireland and Northern Ireland in international competitions.
Ireland is one of the best rugby countries in the world. They have competed in every Rugby World Cup to date, reaching the quarter-finals five times. In addition, they play every year in the Six Nations Tournament. They have won this 24 times, including four times with a grand slam, in 1948, 2009, 2018 and 2023.
Historically, Ireland is regarded as the worst rugby country of the home nations (the four countries in the British Isles), having won only two grand slams and many times the wooden spoon. However, Ireland has adapted very well to the professionalization of the sport, winning more and more in recent years. Ireland has won the title four times since 2000, won the Triple Crown five times and finished second on goal difference twice.
